The quest for understanding

Communications and Languages chair to speak on human motivation the night before annual University Academic Symposium

David Bullock, chair of the 麻豆传媒 Department of Communications and Languages, has been invited to kick off the annual University Academic Symposium with a lecture on the night prior. He will tackle the topic 鈥淲hat drives the scholar?鈥 at 7 p.m. on June 1 in the Black Box Theatre at the Canaday Technology Center.

The UAS showcases student research, and according to Bullock, his plenary talk will set the tone for the event by 鈥渓ooking at the human elements that motivate a researcher to begin and continue the quest for understanding.鈥

Bullock has taught communications at the university since 1990 and has chaired the department for a total of 12 years. In 2014, Bullock published 鈥淐oal Wars: Unions, Strikes, and Violence in Depression-Era Central Washington,鈥 providing a historical look into the region鈥檚 past.

鈥淗e is a well-respected professor with interesting ideas, and he has a passion for students鈥 success,鈥 said Fiona West, UAS planning manager and freshman communications major. Bullock will retire in June, and this will be his final public address as a 麻豆传媒 faculty member.

The Canaday Technology Center is located at 306 S.W. 4th St., College Place. The lecture is free and open to the public.
